He is full time professor and researcher at the Digital Systems Department. His main research interests are motion planning and control for autonomous robots. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Texas A&M University, as well as a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México). He was awarded a Fulbright/García Robles scholarship to pursue his PhD, a CONACYT scholarship to pursue his Masters, and was a SuperComputing Scholar at UNAM. He has been member of the National System of Researchers in Mexico. He has served as associate editor for IEEE ICRA, IEEE/RSJ IROS, and for the Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L). He has also served as organizer of international and local robotics research and competition meetings, including being one of the chairs of the Eight International Workshop on the Algorithmic Foundations of Robotics (WAFR); chair of the Mexican Robotics Tournament; and member of the organizing committee for the 2012 RoboCup, for several editions of the Mexican Robotics Tournament, and for the Mexican School of Robotics. He is vice-president and founder member of the Mexican Federation of Robotics, and chair of the Mexican Council of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.
