Marcelo Mejía graduated as a Biomedical Engineer at the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM) in 1982 and has Master degrees in Computer Science from the UAM, and in Computer Networks from Supélec, in France. In 1989, he obtained a Doctorate in Computer Science from the University of Rennes I, France, working on his doctoral research at the INRIA (Rennes and Sophia Antipolis).

Since 1989, he works as a Full-Time Professor at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) where he has held positions as Head of the Digital Systems and Computer Science Departments and Director of the Masters’ Program in Information Technologies and Management. 

Dr. Mejía is Member of the Register of Accredited Evaluators of the National Mexican Science Council (CONACYT), evaluating panelist of the Fulbrigth - García Robles scholarships, and Member of the Editorial Board of the Information & Management journal. He has been Vice President of the Mexican Computer Science Society (SMCC) and Chairman of the National Accreditation Council in Informatics and Computing (CONAIC).

He has been visiting researcher at the Centre Commun d'Etudes de Télédiffusion et Télécommunications (CCETT) in France, at SBC Technology Ressources (Southwestern Bell) in St. Louis, Missouri, and at the School of Business of the University of Redlands, in California. His areas of expertise include software development, business intelligence, network design, and distributed computing. Dr. Mejía has published more than 30 papers in journals and conference proceedings in these fields.
